A Roulette Wheel Hits Number 19 Seven Times in a Row 27.06.2012

Roulette News

A quick snapshot taken by professional poker player Jeff Romano has sent the casino world, and more specifically the roulette world, ablaze with gossip. Romano was just passing by a roulette table and noticed that the light-up board which shows the previous winning numbers showed that the number 19 had been hit 7 times in a row. Sensing that something was a bit odd, Romano took the photo and posted the photo on his Twitter feed which began the media frenzy.

The incident occurred at the Las Vegas Rio Casino one evening. Many who read the story and Romano himself commented and questioned whether the game was rigged or broken. A spokesman for the Rio Casino, Gary Thompson, tried to calm the public by explaining that the casino was simply running some diagnostic tests and that there were no players betting at that specific roulette table. This does, however, contradict Romano’s statement about seeing people gathered around the table and cheering.

Had this been a real situation, the odds of the same number hitting 7 times in a row is a mind-boggling 3 billion to 1. A person responding to the photo calculated that if a player had placed only a small $5 wager on number 19 and let it ride during all 7 spins, that player would walk away with $321,696,484,375. The likelihood of this event actually occurring during real play is next to impossible but every roulette player has dreamt about a winning streak like this one.
