Macau Gambling Revenues Rise By 39% 16.10.2011

In the period of only a year, gambling revenues in Asia's gambling and casino capital Macau have risen by a staggering 39%. This means that Macau is officially the world's largest gambling and casino market with a revenue reaching $2.65 billion in the month of September 2011. This also means that Macau is making a huge name for itself as it dwarfs Las Vegas as the world's gravitational center with regards to the casino industry and gambling.

The growth may be considered remarkable by some when taking into account the fact that Hong Kong casino stocks have been plummeting and concerns about China's economy. However if you look it at from another angle, then it seems that the big bankers and brokers have simply switched from playing the stock market, to taking a turn at the roulette tables. After all, many would argue that there is little difference between roulette and the stock market.

August saw Macau's gambling and casino revenue rise by an impressive 57%. The figures, which were released at the beginning of October, come following Macau being hit by Typhoon Nesat which made it difficult to access the area as many modes of transport were cut off. Casino visitors wishing to get to Macau by plane, ferry and bus were disappointed to find that the services connecting them to the casinos had been cut off. Other factors that render these statistics surprising include a national holiday and a feared credit squeeze which would have a negative impact on the prospects for the casinos in Macau.

The encouraging figures are largely down to wealthy Chinese gamblers who flock to the six licensed casinos in Macau and mean that Macau has surpassed Las Vegas in terms of revenue and growth. These high-rolling casino visitors account for approximately 70% of those visiting casinos in Macau for a night of gambling.

Casino industry insiders will just have to wait to see if the pattern of impressive growth continues despite fears as to the contrary.
