32-year-old Zhou Zhao and 28-year-old Xiao Dong Lu have been found guilty by the Hamilton District Court of deception after having scammed players by collaborating with a rapid roulette table game dealer. The dealer has already been sentenced to 9 months of home detention and has been forced to pay reparation fees of a total of $20,000, but the fates of the other culprits have not been determined until this past Friday.

How did the trio managed to scam players out of $7,000? Well, the dealer allowed the other two culprits to place bets after the ball had been dropped into the slot with the winning number. The dealer deliberately released the ball early, which in turn removed the chance factor and caused the casino losses of over $7k.

According to the facts of the case, Du had met the two players in 2011 (at which point Du had been working for the casino for 6 years), and they formed a relationship leading to an agreement that Du would “cheat” on their behalf whenever they came into the casino to play. The trio were caught when The Department of Internal Affairs was called in as a result of irregularities with the rapid roulette game.

Rob Abbott, compliance manager at the Internal Affairs’ Casino, warned players considering cheating in the future that they will be caught as huge advances in technology have made it impossible to cheat and not be discovered.

Lu and Zhao will appear in court at the end of this month in order to be sentenced.
