The US state of Florida is facing a massive shake up with regards to its gambling legislation that could signal great changes in the state in terms of new job creation, increased tourism and greater business tax revenues for the state.

Last week the Florida State Legislature passed a bill that would pave the way for planned expansion of the gambling industry in Florida by allocating land, granting building permits and gambling licenses to three new super-casino resorts to be built in two southern counties of the state.

The gambling licenses will be granted to operators on the condition that they each invest at least $2 billion in building their glitzy new resorts thus regenerating Florida’s declining economy by generating new jobs first in construction and infrastructure and later in the hotel and casino industry jobs.

The license would cost each new operator a one-time payment of $50 million and an annual renewal payment of $2 million. Operators would also be imposed with a 10 percent tax on their gross gambling revenues.

The bill was controversial enough as it was originally proposed but last minute changes that expanded it to allow racecourses and pari-mutuel establishments will be allowed to add slot machines on their premises.

This has raised some concerns that the bill’s initial intention of containing gambling to restricted regions in the state was completely lost and the bill turned into a gambling bill that is aimed at pleasing operators and providing them with greater incentives to invest in the state.

Regardless of how the final bill was perceived, there is little doubt that it will provide Florida with the financial adrenaline shoot it so badly requires. The other good news is that within a few short years roulette players from all over the world would be able to visit Florida and enjoy a selection of hundreds of roulette tables.
